It's a question that every responsible citizen must ask. Do we need to use up the earths supply of non-renewable resources such as fossil fuel? What are the alternatives? Clearly we need power. The use of electricity and petrol is so ingrained into our way of life that there is really no option but to go forward.
So, we have wind power which uses large turbines to harness the winds energy and produce electricity. Alternately we can use the power of water with hydroelectric dams which use a similar technique to a coal-fired power plant. And don't forget about solar energy. To run our vehicles, biofuels are constantly being refined to hopefully become a viable alternative to oil. These are clearly the more 'earth friendly' options, but their use is limited to the right environmental conditions.
So what is left for those areas without these natural, renewable resources? Nuclear Power has long been a leading option but its potential impact on our environment and health should anything go wrong, is rapidly reducing its popularity. That leaves fossil fuels. Coal mined from the earth is still widely used to power our homes and most of our cars run on energy from oil. There has to be another way.
